Dumpster rentals come with weight limits. They are put into place mainly because there are limits to what the dumpster truck can safely haul, but also based on your area’s dump costs and weight load restrictions.
The average weight allowance for a 20 yard dumpster is 4 tons, or 8,000 lbs.
With that said, not all dumpster rental providers will include 4 tons of weight with their 20 yard dumpster rental. Some may only offer 2 tons, while others may offer 6 or 8 tons. Some even offer “unlimited” weight for certain types of lightweight debris.
Because of these disparities in weight limit and cost, we recommend contacting at least three providers.
